March 2026 - ongoing

Invisible Square Meters expands the definition of vacancy. Through collective mapping and the activation of underused spaces, private space is reimagined as a potential for co-use. As urban space is increasingly treated as an object of speculation, spaces with potential for collective use remain inaccessible, while their non-use has become widely accepted. Vacant flats, storage rooms, and overlooked interiors stay invisible.

The collected Invisible Square Meters, in the Van-Swieten-Viertel in Vienna’s 9th district, are reimagined as shared resources beyond the dominant logic of private ownership. Together with residents and neighbours, underused spaces are collectively mapped and translated into visible interventions in the street. Mapping becomes a practice of commoning that reveals local knowledge, opens new conversations about spaces and how they could be shared.

Violence towards women and female presenting people starts with catcalling, not respecting personal boundries and sexists jokes. These beer coasters are created to call out men where mysagonistic behaviour is normalised.
The initiative was started by Hannah Horn and Pauline Brämer as part of the Mutfluencer*innen programme funded by Caritas. I joined in the later part of the project for the graphic design and the implementation of the website. From now on we continue the kneipenfeminismus project together and hosted our first feminist bar event in April.
